Tropicana Las Vegas faces changes under Bally’s management
Renovation and even demolition are being considered for the Tropicana rebranding process.
US.- The iconic Tropicana Las Vegas Hotel and Casino was acquired by the gambling company Bally’s Corp in April 2021, and the rebranding process is starting to take shape. Bally’s chairman Soonhyung Kim said that once Bally’s completes its takeover of the Tropicana Las Vegas, it will start to redevelop the property on the south end of the Las Vegas Strip.
In an interview with the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Kim said a variety of options are on the table for the Tropicana, including renovating the resort or demolishing it and starting afresh.
Kim told the cited source that the company would “almost certainly” rename the property, as was likely to redevelop it. “We’re open to it all,” Kim stated. One of the options is demolishing the hotel-casino and building something from scratch, because it’s one way to “maximize value.” “We have some big plans that are being worked on,” Kim added.
Last April, Gaming and Leisure Properties sold the iconic Tropicana Las Vegas Hotel and Casino to the Rhode Island-based Bally’s Corp for $308m. The sale of the nearly 1,500-room hotel, casino, theatre and convention property also involves a sale-and-leaseback transaction relating to Bally’s Black Hawk, Colorado and Rock Island, Illinois, casino properties. Bally’s has a 50-year lease for Tropicana starting at $10.5m annually.
