Trinidad and Tobago will debate casino legislation
Finance Minister said that the legislation will be debated in the next session of the House.
Trinidad and Tobago.- Colm Imbert, Finance Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, said that the operations of so-called private members clubs will be debated in the next session. There are currently about 99 members clubs in the country, but only three paying taxes.
Imbert focused on the inefficiencies of the Board of Inland Revenue, and he explained that it was necessary to establish the Revenue Authority, based on the fact that there is not enough information sharing among the entities. The Revenue Authority would bring all the revenue collecting agencies together, which would mean that the government could have a proper understanding of its potential revenue collection.
“The board simply does not have enough resources so the country needs the Revenue Authority very badly. We need an over-arching agency that shares information among all the revenue agencies in the country,” he said.
