Tribal casino opens in Indiana
The Pokegon Band of Potawatomi Indians’ Four Winds Casino in South Bend has finally had its opening celebration this Tuesday.
US.- Indiana casino market is set to change completely with the opening of the Four Winds Casino in South Bend. The venue, operated by the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians, had its opening celebration this Tuesday and became the first tribal casino in the state.
The venue covers 175,000 square feet and includes 1,800 electronic games, has four restaurants and several other services such as a players’ lounge, a coffee shop, three bars, a retail outlet and approximately 4,500 parking spaces. It will have tribal privileges such as a tax rate of only 2 per cent on its annual revenue, a staggering difference with the rest of the casinos in the state, which pay 15-40 per cent.
Pokagon Band Chairman John Warren said they “couldn’t have done this without the support of many people and agencies,” and added: “We also extend our gratitude to the Pokagon Elders Council and Pokagon Gaming Authority, along with the entire Tribal Government. Without their knowledge and guidance, we would not be here today.”
Four Winds’ COO Frank Freedman highlighted the potential of the venue as an entertainment destination for the region and said: “We’ve hired and trained over 1,200 of the best people to provide the same superior level of quality and service our guests have come to expect from the Four Winds brand.”
