“This will be the start of a new phase of innovation for casinos”

(Exclusive interview).- Tristan Sjoberg, Executive Chairman at TCSJOHNHUXLEY, speaks to Focus Gaming News about how the company has been working with land-based casinos as they reopen following lockdown.

TCSJOHNHUXLEY needs no introduction to those in the land-based casino industry. This leading manufacturer of gaming equipment, from tables and roulette wheels to displays and chippers, has operations around the globe, putting it in a position to work with casinos in multiple territories as they reopen after Covid-19 lockdowns.

Despite varying regulations in different territories, Executive Chairman Tristan Sjoberg says the questions the company is receiving from customers are the same everywhere.

“I’m hearing exactly the same questions whether I talk to a customer in South Africa, the UK, Asia or indeed Las Vegas,” he says.

“It’s all about how do we secure our premises for our staff and for our players? How can we reopen, give them the customer experience they crave and want and at the same time do our utmost to keep them safe?”

“You have to do everything you can to keep a clean a safe environment.”

Mr Sjoberg emphasises the importance of hygiene precautions to avoid contagion on the gaming floor and very soon into the pandemic had customers asking what products TCSJOHNHUXLEY had available.

The company began producing perspex shielding for ETGs and tables and launched a Care and Protect range, including a chip sanitiser that it took from design to market in 14 weeks.

The company also found a demand from customers for PPE which it had began printing at its base in Stoke-on-Trent, UK, for local NHS workers as a charity drive.

“Technological innovation has been hamstrung by regulators but they’re wising up.”

One positive that Mr Sjoberg sees coming from the pandemic is how it is pushing casinos to innovate, particularly with technology.

He’s welcomed the move by regulators in some territories to begin accepting cashless payments, and says that TCSJOHNHUXLEY has products in the pipeline that integrate technology into existing products to improve safety.

“Hopefully this will be the start of a new phase of innovation for land-based casinos, both suppliers and operators.”
