Opening date set for temporary Live! Casino Virginia
The gaming venue in Petersburg will open in January, pending final state regulatory approval.
US.- The temporary Live! Casino Virginia in Petersburg is to open on January 22, 2026, pending final state regulatory approval. The Cordish Companies’ permanent Live! Casino & Hotel Resort will follow in 2027.
The temporary casino will span approximately 75,000 square feet and will have 900 slot machines, 33 table games, and a bar and quick-service dining area. It is being constructed on the same site off Interstate 95 where the permanent $1.4bn casino will be located.
Rob Norton, president of Cordish Gaming Group, said: “After years of planning, we’re thrilled to see this vision become reality. When Live! Casino Virginia opens its doors, Central Virginia will experience something truly exceptional — the region’s first full-scale casino featuring the electrifying energy of Vegas-style slots, live-action table games and the signature excitement only Live! can deliver.”
Penny Parayo, senior vice president and general manager of Live! Casino Virginia, added: “Our team has been working hard day and night to be able to welcome guests through our doors for the first time in January.”
Earlier this month, Live! Casino Virginia opened a recruitment centre as it seeks more than 500 employees. The company is hiring for permanent roles in facilities, security, surveillance, slot technology, finance, cashiering, food and beverage, guest service and environmental services. It also needs to fill more than 100 table games dealer positions.
Meanwhile, in Norfolk, Boyd Gaming and the Pamunkey Tribe hace opened an interim gaming hall ahead of a $750m permanent casino also slated for 2027. Located off Park Avenue, it’s the first gaming venue in Norfolk and the fourth in Virginia following those in Bristol, Portsmouth and Danville.
