Swedish regulator warns licensees

The local watchdog is set to act against licensees if they don’t comply with new regulations.

Sweden.- Spelinspektionen, the gambling regulator from Sweden, has warned gaming companies that they will be fined if they don’t follow the latest regulations, which establish that they have to comply with the Spelpaus self-exclusion registry.

The watchdog released a statement after it was revealed that there were shortcomings in the self-exclusion area. Spelinspektionen said that it is about licence holders that do not have an active connection to Spelpaus, which means that suspended players have been able to play with those companies.

“If the gaming companies lack the requirement to check and stop players who have self-excluded, it can be considered a serious breach of the regulations, which could lead to them losing their license,” said the regulator.

Last week, the communications manager of the regulator said that a handful of gaming companies don’t meet the requirements set by the law and that they would urge them an explanation of why suspended players were able to access their services.
