The Swedish government has revealed more details on the planned inquiry into future protection measures following the lifting of online casino deposit limits.

Sweden.- The Swedish gambling regulator Spelinspektionen is to commence an inquiry into future igaming protection measures, following the lifting of temporary online casino restrictions that end on November 14.

The regulator will analyse the impact of the temporary restrictions and propose new measures.

Sweden’s restrictions on igaming, which included a SEK5,000 (€500) deposit limit and a cap on bonuses, were introduced on July 1 2020 as a measure to prevent a possible rise in problem gambling during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The restrictions were extended until June 2021 and then until November 14.

The government has now revealed more details about what Spelinspektionen is to consider in its new inquiry.

The regulator will look at how types of gaming, the range of games offered, availability and marketing evolved during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The regulator will then put forward new rules designed to enhance consumer protection and tackle public health problems connected to gambling.

It has until March 15 to submit a partial report. However, its full analysis will not be due until October 31, 2023.
