Sports betting to kick off in Pennsylvania

A Harrisburg casino is set to open a sports book after being cleared by the state regulator to offer sports betting.

US.- Sports betting was recently cleared by the Supreme Court to be legalised nationwide and Pennsylvania was one of the first states to make a move on the segment. Even as it only has two sports books cleared by the state regulator to begin operating, the first venue has yet to open shop and, according to local media, it is set to happen before 2019.

The Hollywood Casino, near Harrisburg, is bound to become the first casino with a sports book opening in the state. The other gaming venue authorised by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board is the Parx Casino, which is also expected to begin operating in the short term, but no other companies would join them before the end of this year.

The board still needs to approve that the sports betting venue will work with the casinos and only Hollywood Casino’s was voted for conditional approval at the PGCB monthly meeting. Further construction and staff training still need to be taken care of, which is set to delay the opening, at least, until after next November 28, when the PGCB board will meet again.
