Sports betting almost ready in Pennsylvania
The Hollywood Casino began taking bets during a “test day” and became the first to conduct sports wagering in the state.
US.- Sports betting was legalised in Pennsylvania a while ago but hadn’t gone live until this Thursday, when the Hollywood Casino began taking bets during a “live wagering test day” and became the first to do so in the state. The segment was cleared for legalisation by the Supreme Court in the US after it struck PASPA down, and Pennsylvania was one of the first to regulate it – but no casino has begun operating yet.
The sportsbook will be operated by William Hill during the test period, which will control the business to ensure the staff and equipment are in compliance with regulatory requirements. Said needed tasks were required by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) and are the main reason operations haven’t gone live yet.
Parx Casino in Bensalem, Harrah’s Philadelphia Casino & Racetrack in Chester, and SugarHouse Casino in Philadelphia, as well as Rivers Casino in Pittsburgh and Hollywood Casino in Grantville, near Harrisburg, are the other venues which have been cleared by the gaming board. The Valley Forge Casino Resort in King of Prussia has also filed papers to operate in the state and has already announced a partnership with Betfair Interactive US LLC (FanDuel Group’s subsidiary) to do so.
