SJM Holdings could resume ops by Sunday

After the Typhoon Hato that hit the city earlier this week, the Macau operator said that operations could be resumed on Sunday.

Macau.- A memo issued by SJM Holdings Ltd detailed that normal operations in Macau could be resumed by Sunday. A tropical storm hit Macau on Wednesday and damaged some of the casino resorts in the city, which showed that their floors were flooded.

The memo issued in the name of executive director Angela Leong On Kei said: “Normal operation should resume on August 27.” And added: “Between August 24 and 26, employees who are scheduled to work can choose whether to attend to work. If they show up according to the schedule, they will get pay normally. If they are absent, they will be considered taking a leave of absence,” cited GGRAsia.

SJM Holdings said yesterday that the Typhoon Hato damaged the power supply at the Grand Lisboa and Hotel Lisboa properties. “We are still waiting for CEM [the local electricity company] to resume full power to the hotels and rest assured that the hotels will remain fully operational once power is resumed,” said the company.

Moreover, as the news outlet said, analyst Grant Govertsen of Union Gaming Securities Asia Ltd said that VIP and premium mass is expected to be quite modest over the coming days and weeks as costumers “are likely to divert their trip and come back to the market only once things have returned to normal.”
