Russian authorities confirm Azov-City shutdown
The gambling zone will be terminated on December 31, according to an order by Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev.
Russia.- There’s no hope for Azov-City after all, as Prime Minister of Russia, Dmitry Medvedev, announced the termination of the gambling zone after eight years of operations. The Russian leader confirmed the decision after several months of uncertainty around the area, which will be liquidated next December 31.
According to the authorities, the termination of the Azov-City zone was decided as they plan to focus on the expansion of another zone in the Krasnodar Territory: the Krasnaya Polyana zone. Such a move had been in the making since 2014, when a law on gambling zones was amended to only allow one in the area.
There are currently two gaming venues in the Krasnaya Polyana, the Bumerang slot machine hall and the Sochi Casino and Resort, and a new casino will be opened next January 4, just 5 days after the liquidation of Azov-City.
Azov-City is among the most visited Russian gambling zones as it recorded over a million gamblers since it began operating and attracted over €80 million of investment. However, after being liquidated, investors won’t get any type of compensation from the state.
