Romania.- The Romanian gambling regulator ONJN has blocked another three unlicensed gambling sites in the country. The names of the sites were not been disclosed.
The regulator said it has filed criminal complaints against the operators in a bid to hold accountable the beneficiaries. The ONJN has been regularly updating its list of blocked sites since it began in 2015 ahead of the introduction of regulated igaming. In the last five months, 130 sanctions were applied, 32 criminal complaints were filed and 93 sites were blacklisted.
Meawhile, 28 licences were revoked, and 3 licensed online gambling platforms were temporarily suspended.
The regulator said: “The Office constantly monitors every movement and compliance by payment processors, software providers, and other service providers involved in the gambling industry. Thus, those who support illegal operators will commit a crime and will no longer be able to operate on the Romanian market.”
In a separate statement, the regulator warned gambling companies and influencers on social media that they are obliged to protect minors from gambling content. Age restrictions must be set on to ensure that people under 18 cannot access or view gambling-related content, and links to gambling sites is prohibited unless accompanied by access restrictions.
