Richmond Mayor to fight Delta casino
The casino plans were approved by the city last week, and it only needs BCLC’s green light.
Canada.- Richmond Mayor Malcolm Brodie has revealed that he is planning to fight the proposed casino that would be constructed at the Delta Town & Country site in Ladner. The project has been approved by a city council last week and is now waiting for formal approval from the B.C. Lottery Corporation (BCLC).
Brodie believes that the casino is wrongly located, as he argues that it would have a negative impact on agricultural land. He also considers that the new facility could take revenue off his own city: “It’s just up the highway from the existing casino. That is likely to draw customers away from the River Rock, which is going to have a negative revenue impact.”
The Mayor of Richmond said that North Delta would’ve been a better location and that the BCLC was actually considering it. He has filed a notice of objection with the lottery corporation and is prepared to formally contest the location. “I don’t know the timelines, I don’t know exactly the process that’s going to be followed, but this will get resolved one way or the other,” he said.
The project includes a five-story, 116-room hotel, meeting space, eateries and a casino with 500 slots, 24 gaming tables and several e-tables, with a possibility for a bigger gaming expansion in the future.
