Rhode Island casino on track
An environmental report stated that the facility would be an insignificant alteration.
US.- The Rhode Island General Assembly discussed and decided in March 2016 that they would send a petition to allow a new casino to be built in Tiverton to the November ballot, where citizens voted in favor.
Twin River Management Group is planning on opening the Tiverton casino in mid 2018 and close its Newport grand slots parlor. The company presented a rough draft of its plans to the local Planning Board last week. The Rhode Island Department Of Environmental Management said that the environmental damage of the construction would be insignificant, which is a good step for the upcoming facility. The Herald News said that Twin River needs to accomplish 14 conditions that will be set by the Department Of Environmental Management.
Planning Board Chairman for Tiverton Stuart Hardy said: “They are on a fast track. We want to keep pace with that if we can and also do our due diligence required for the town. That was a pre-application concept plan review. It gave the Planning Board and the audience a chance to ask questions.” Hardy commented that a meeting is scheduled for February 7, where they’ll discuss and approve a draft that would change the zoning enactment in order to allow gaming facilities in the zone.
“The state has promised Twin River that it will have that roundabout up and running in time for the casino. We’ll do what we can to get our part done,” said the Chairman to Herald News. The proposed US$75 million casino would feature 1000 video lottery terminals (VLTs), along with 32 table games.
