Resorts World Manila fights for license
The operator of the Resorts World Manila has announced that it will do everything within its reach to retain its license after the deadly attack on June 2.
Philippines.- A deadly attack at the Resorts World Manila shocked the Philippines and left 36 people dead on June 2. Nearly two weeks after, the casino operator has revealed that it will do whatever it can to preserve its right to a gaming license.
In a Tuesday filing to the Philippine Stock Exchange from Travellers Internarional Hotel Group Inc., the operator said: “The company assures its stakeholders that all efforts shall be exerted to preserve and defend the company’s provisional licence.”
According to GGRAsia, the statement was issued as a response to the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp’s (PAGCOR) order to suspend its gaming license, pending an investigation into the incident. Resorts World Manila operates under a provisional license and isn’t complete yet as it has a third phase of construction planned to increase hotel room capacity by 2018.
In its filing, Travellers International explained that the gaming permit suspension is “pending investigation and final determination by Pagcor of the company’s alleged liability for the June 2, 2017 robbery/arson incident”.
The Philippine media reported that the attacker was a problem gambler who was trying to steal chips after running out of money and had been previously barred from entering licensesd gamig venues.
