Rangers cuts ties with Ladbrokes
Scottish Premiership side will not renew its in-stadium betting partnership with the bookmaker when it ends later this year.
UK.- Scottish Premiership side Rangers has decided to end its partnership with Ladbrokes at the end of this season, bringing an end to ‘in-stadium betting’.
The deal in place was due to expire at the end of the 2019-20 season and Rangers had been in negotiations with Ladbrokes over an extension. But the Glasgow club announced on Tuesday (April 14th) that the partnership would not be renewed.
Ladbrokes provided fans with the ability to place bets during Rangers games at Ibrox.
Rangers Director of Commercial & Marketing, James Bisgrove, said: “Following a number of supporter enquiries over the Easter weekend, we can confirm the arrangement with Ladbrokes, who provide betting facilities at Ibrox stadium, will not continue next season.”
“In anticipation of our 150th anniversary [in 2022], Rangers will continue to grow its Commercial Partnerships programme, both domestically and internationally.”
Ladbrokes will not be renewing their title sponsorship of the SPFL beyond the end of the 2019-20 season as it continues to reduce its visibility in UK football and head into a different creative direction.
The bookmaker arrived as the title sponsor of the four Scottish leagues in 2015, signing a two-year deal. That agreement was worth £2million (€2.3million/$2.5million) in the first season, before rising to around £2.1million in the second season.
