Preliminary injunction allows Californian cardrooms to offer blackjack
San Francisco Superior Court Judge Richard Darwin has passed a preliminary injunction to allow blackjack games while a legal challenge continues.
US.- San Francisco Superior Court Judge Richard Darwin has passed a preliminary injunction allowing California cardrooms to continue to operate blackjack after the California Gaming Association brought a legal challenge against new regulations. The move puts a 45-day pause on regulations that came into affect on April 1, which gave cardrooms until May 31 to cease offering the card game.
Kyle Kirkland, California Gambling Association president, said in a statement: “Today’s ruling validates what we have said all along: Attorney General Bonta and the Bureau of Gambling Control exceeded their authority by attempting to rewrite California gaming law.”
The California Attorney General’s Office said: “The court issued a preliminary injunction, and we will respond appropriately in court.”
The next hearing is scheduled for June 30.
