Ponca Tribe reveals Carter Lake casino name

The tribe wants the facility to be up and running by late October in Iowa.

US.- Native American tribe Ponca Tribe of Nebraska has announced this week that the casino planned for Carter Lake, Iowa, is set to be named Prairie Flower Casino. The Nebraskan tribe said that they intend for the casino to be open in late October.

Ponca Tribe of Nebraska Chairman Larry Wright Jr. said: “With its name, we honour our Tribe’s past and the sacrifices our people made, while charting a new path of prosperity for our Tribe. The Prairie Flower Casino will allow us to better serve our members while bringing economic development and growth to the Carter Lake region.”

The first phase of the casino will feature a 9,500 square-foot space with 200 slot-style games. While there won’t be table games, the tribe is already planning an extension for the facility.

Nevertheless, an effort to block the casino is currently under review by a federal judge, as the location of the facility has been under discussions by authorities of both Iowa and Nebraska.

Carter Lake Mayor Ron Cumberledge said: “Hopefully this economic development over in this area that hasn’t seen anything in my lifetime, it’s been a vacant grass field, I mean, we’re looking to bring jobs, a little destination, recreation and opportunity for that area.”
