Poland’s iGaming ban upheld by court

A local Polish court upheld the country’s right to set an online gambling websites blacklist to ban iGaming operators.

Poland.- The Polish Provincial Administrative Court has ruled in favour of the country’s already established online gambling blacklist. The list of online gambling domains that were offering betting services without permission had been challenged by international companies which seem to have failed, according to local media outlets.

According to the foreign companies, the Ministry was staining their names by including them in the blacklist, something that it had no right to do without a court order. Nonetheless, according to the Provincial Administrative Court, the amended Polish Gambling Act, which had been submitted to the European Commission, had no issues with its restrictions. Therefore, the Ministry was within its rights to include whoever they wanted on the list.

There are already 2,400 domains included in the Polish blacklist, included some recognised brands with base in Curacao. Still, the country continues to issue online sports betting licences and is in favour of the iGaming segment, as long as its developed under the proper channels and with its permission.
