Poker room at MGM Springfield reopens today

After an 18-month interruption due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the poker room at the Massachusetts casino reopened this morning.

US.- Poker fans in Massachusetts are happy to finally be able to play the card game at the MGM Springfield tables. The poker room reopened this morning after being closed for 18 months due to the pandemic.

Chris Kelley, MGM Springfield president and COO, said: “MGM Springfield is thrilled to reopen our Poker Room. We are looking forward to welcoming back our loyal players and dozens of employees who have waited for this day for more than a year and a half.”

Last month, the casino announced the return of poker and began removing about 20 per cent of the slot machines from its former poker room in preparation for the reintroduction of the game.

The room now offers 13 tables where up to nine people can play and live cash games, instead of the former 28.

Poker had been prohibited by the Massachusetts Gaming Commission when regulators first allowed venues to reopen under health and safety restrictions in 2020. MGM Springfield has also reintroduced a requirement for guests to wear face masks in keeping with a local mandate.
