Play Alberta names NHL players as ambassadors to promote responsible gaming

The operator has named Leon Draisaitl of the Edmonton Oilers, and Dustin Wolf of the Calgary Flames as playing ambassadors.

Canada.- Play Alberta, the only licensed sports betting and online casino operator in Alberta, has named National Hockey League (NHL) stars Leon Draisaitl of the Edmonton Oilers and Dustin Wolf of the Calgary Flames as playing ambassadors. It’s the first time it’s signed a deal with NHL players to support responsible gaming and promote community engagement initiatives.

Draisaitl and Wolf will participate in the operator’s responsible gambling campaigns, including GameSense initiatives, a programme created to promote safe gaming habits. The athletes will promote self-exclusion tools, time and spending limits, and awareness of gambling-related risks. The deal also includes meet-and-greet events during the 2025–26 NHL season.

Dan Keene, vice president of gaming at the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis (AGLC), said: “The addition of two new elite athlete ambassadors will help connect Alberta sports fans to Alberta-based teams with some of the most exciting, show-stopping performers this province currently has in it. Leon and Dustin are competitive, world-class professionals who give Play Alberta deeper opportunities to remind legal-aged Albertans of the responsible gambling features and tentpole matchups on the sports calendar.”

In May, Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission (AGLC) announced that Play Alberta had agreed a multi-year partnership to become the sports betting partner of Edmonton Elks in the Canadian Football League (CFL).
