PGA Tour suspends Matt Gogel for six months over golf betting
The Tour said the bets violated its integrity programme, although none involved tournaments in which Gogel participated.
U.S.- The PGA Tour has suspended Matt Gogel from events for six months after determining that he placed multiple bets on golf competitions during 2024 and 2025. The wagers breached the Tour’s integrity programme, which prohibits betting on PGA Tour events and other professional golf competitions.
The Tour did not disclose the tournaments involved or the types of wagers placed by Gogel. It said that none of the bets concerned events in which the player participated.
Gogel will be eligible to return to competition in late February. In a statement, he said he had unknowingly violated PGA Tour policy by placing small recreational wagers on golf.
“I want to be clear that these wagers were not placed on regular PGA Tour events, PGA Tour Champions events or any tournament in which I participated,” Gogel said. He described the incident as “an honest mistake.”
Gogel won the 2002 AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am. In 2001, he tied for 12th at the US Open, his best finish in a major championship. He has competed regularly on the PGA Tour Champions in recent years but has not yet won on the senior circuit. Gogel did not miss a cut during the past season and finished runner-up at the ISPS HANDA Senior Open in July.
