Pennsylvania legalises DFS
Daily Fantasy Sports are now regulated and taxed in Pennsylvania, with six websites already registered to operate legally.
US.- Sports betting is getting regulated all across the United States while governments wait for the Supreme Court to rule on a case which would legalise the segment, and Pennsylvania is among the states with the most interest in doing so. In addition to traditional wagering, the state has just legalised daily fantasy sports (DFS) and regulated the activity through a law that went into effect last Saturday.
Pennsylvania’s gambling expansion included DFS’ regulation and taxation, which has been set at 15 per cent under the recently approved law. The legalisation has already seen six websites registered to legally operate within the state borders, including top companies DraftKings and FanDuel.
DFS was considered to be in a grey area as many considered it as a skill game, while others thought of it as illegal gambling. That’s why several states turned to lawmakers in order to set the record straight on the segment.
Under the new legislation, operators will be taxed 15 per cent on their revenue as the state pushed the bill “candidly, to collect tax revenue,” Gaming Control Board spokesman Doug Harbach said. The amount of money (the exact amount is unknown) will go into Pennsylvania’s general fund.
