Pennsylvania city pushes for casino
Reading City of Pennsylvania State could soon approve a casino proposal to install a mini venue.
US.- Pennsylvania State could further expand its gaming industry as the Mayor of Reading City Wally Scott and the local Council are pushing for a casino proposal to allow the installation of a gaming venue. “We are in full support of this,” commented the administration last Monday, during a reunion with the Council.
The local government has urged the State’s Gaming Control Board to approve the casino project, that would call for a bidding process to grant a gaming license. The city seeks to host a mini casino and entertainment center. The measure was supported by Mayor Scott, who said that the City is open to the opportunity.
“With gambling facilities, there are always negatives, but the positives far outweigh them,” Councilman John Slifko said. “This is an opportunity to help with the revitalization of downtown. Gambling is going to go somewhere; we might as well have it here and reap some of the good aspects.” Meanwhile, Councilman Jeffrey S. Waltman Sr. said: “We are in full support of this, our message is, ‘Take a very close look at us, because we’re here to support the effort.’”
According to representatives of the City Councils, two local companies have shown interest in operating the possible gaming venue. One of them is a city-owned property at Fifth and Penn streets and the other, a privately-owned property at 511 Penn Street.
