Pennsylvania casinos set revenue record

Despite the continuous decline of slots revenue, Pennsylvania casinos overall return set a new record at US$3.22 billion in 2017.

US.- The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) revealed the financial results for the 12 brick-and-mortar casino licensees which reported a record-breaking 2017. During last year, casinos in the state reached a combined gaming revenue of US$3.22 billion and continue to grow despite a decline in slots return.

The report showed a 0.4 per cent growth from 2016’s US$3.21 billion revenue, which had already grown 1.5 per cent from 2015’s US$3.17 billion. That marks the third straight year that gaming has grown in the state, which is extremely relevant when considering slots revenue has decreased for two years in a row.

Despite a 1.2 per cent increase during December, slots return in 2017 fell 1 per cent short from the previous year after reaching US$2.33 billion. The negative figures were shown at eight out of the twelve venues in the state, including top performers Parx Casino and Sands Bethlehem.

Furthermore, Pennsylvania is set to experience major changes during 2018 as the gambling expansion comes into effect. Its first consequence came last week with Penn National Gaming winning an auction for a Category 4 casino license.
