Penn National Gaming comments on iGaming

Penn National Gaming Incorporated recommends lower taxes for the potential iGaming industry.

US.- Penn National Gaming Incorporated has reportedly commented about possible online gaming regulations in Pennsylvania, which can generate further benefits for state’s funds on social services such as education and the police department. According to World Casino Directory, the national company believes that lower taxes would help developing a profitable industry.

“We’re trying to convince [legislators] that if they [set the iGaming tax rate too high], no one will sign up for it and so we’re spending a lot of time trying to educate legislators on that business while at the same time, frankly, fending off an effort by the state lottery to be the provider themselves,” told Eric Schippers, Public Affairs And Government Relations Senior Vice-President of the company to the newspaper.

Current online gaming bills propose tax conditions of 5 percent and 25 percent of gross revenues. However, officials may set equivalent iGaming taxes to land-based casino taxes, meaning that they would be over 54 percent. “iGaming is firmly in the mix on both sides,” added Schippers. “The key question around iGaming right now is focusing on the tax rate that would be applied. We’re trying to knock down some sort of silly notion that you could have tax parity between iGaming and the slot machines and that it could be a successful industry.”
