Osaka discusses gaming regulation
Osaka authorities held a meeting to discuss integrated resort policies and gaming regulation.
Japan.- Osaka authorities held a meeting on Monday to present the expected draft of integrated resort regulation. Government officials from Osaka cities and members of the prefecture gathered at the monthly IR Promotion Council to discuss the conditions of casino and hotel operations.
Osaka is planning to obtain the casino license to host a Yumeshima IR, which would offer touristic, commercial and gaming activities. The Osaka facility would not only be a point of attraction to tourists, but also to residents seeking unique entertainment offerings, once the government approves the plan.
Osaka’s IR Promotion Council has been holding several meetings since March, when the local government decided to present a project to host the IR. Whilst officials are proposing regulations to entertainment facilities, the casino sector would have to comply with national legislation on the issue.
Japan authorities would approve strict conditions for casino services. Operators would have to install exclusive technology to study players’ behaviour and respond to problem gambling, according to AGBrief. Although Yumeshima IR would be adapted to general regulation, Osaka’s authorities would implement its own regulating model as well as including exclusive policies and operating conditions. Last month the Governor of Osaka, Ichiro Matsui pronounced his concern about the strict restrictions to residents’ participation in gaming activities.
