Oregon tribe announces expansion
Klamath County’s second biggest tourist attraction is set to feature a hotel next to Klamoya Casino.
US.- Klamath Tribal Council member Kathleen Hatcher-Mitchell announced that Klamoya Casino will feature a hotel on site. The US$6.5 million project was celebrated with a Tuesday ceremony.
“After 20 years with our casino, we now have a hotel to compliment it, our Travel Center, all in one area. I think it will be great for the Tribe, and for the county,” said Hatcher-Mitchell. As local news kobi5.com reported, the casino is currently the second biggest attraction in the territory, only eclipsed by Crater Lake National Park. The official said that the goal of including a hotel is to boost and expand the tourist base: “It brings more of a destination resort type feel, rather than a ‘We’re going to go there for the day.’ So this will help get people to come and stay, and tour the area.”
Once the hotel is finished, the next plan for the complex is an expansion for the casino. “We’re hoping at this time next year we’ll be announcing the grand opening.” The US$6.5 million hotel will be called ‘Choice Hotels Sleep Inn’ and will feature 76 rooms.
Jared Hall, Klamath Tribes Economic Development Executive Director said: “Today is all about teamwork and perseverance. It will be great for the tribe and help catapult us to the next economic development venture as we seek to gain economic self-sufficiency in the future.”
