Workers ratify new contract at Caesars Windsor in Ontario

A deal with Unifor Local 444 has been approved by 83.3 per cent of the membership.

Canada.- Unionised workers at Caesars Windsor in Ontario have ratified a new three-year collective agreement. The deal, reached after weeks of negotiations with Unifor Local 444 was approved by 83.3 per cent of membership.

Workers will see a CA$4 raise over three years: a CA$2 per hour raise in the first year, followed by CA$1 each subsequent year. The contract adds a second retirement option, allowing workers CA$500 monthly from age 65 over three years. An existing package offering CA$300 at age 60 after 10 years of service remains an option.

Unifor Local 444 president James Stewart said on X: “Your bargaining team is proud of this three-year agreement, the most lucrative contract since Caesars Windsor opened in 1994.

“Caesars is always tough to bargain with. It’s a service industry. Our members working in this city are so close to auto — their expectations are high. They’ve seen what some of our manufacturing units have bargained, and what their gains have been. The expectations were high, and they deserve it. We bargained with that in mind. I think the 83 per cent ratification shows that they were pleased with the outcome”, Stewart said, according to a local report from Windsor Star.”

Unifor Local 444 represents nearly 1,500 casino workers at the Windsor casino. Stewart said about 1,250 were registered to participate in the ratification vote.
