Online gambling keeps growing in the UK
The local gambling commission revealed that online gambling is still the top revenue earner in the UK.
UK.- The UK Gambling Commission revealed on Thursday the financial numbers of both online and land-based operations in the territory. The data was recorded during the twelve month period ending in September 2016.
The latest numbers reveal that online gambling is the top revenue scorer with £4.46 billion, up from the £4.23 billion that was reached in the 12 months between April 2015 and March 2016. Online casino revenue is still the most important gambling service in the United Kingdom, as it reported £2.4 billion, even if it means that it grew less than 3 percent. Remote betting also experienced a 10 percent increase to £1.79 billion, specially boosted by the football tournament Euro 2016, and pool betting increased 16 percent to £30.2 million.
Moreover, online bingo experienced a small fall to £150 million. Between October 2015 and September 2016 the UK increased its online costumers registrations from 23.7 million to 28.4 million, meaning than more than half of the adults in the territory are registered, as revealed by CalvinAyre.
On the other hand, land-based betting is following the online sector after managing to snatch the second place from the National Lottery. Betting increased 3 percent to £3.46 billion, and the lottery suffered a 4.3 percent loss to £3.26 billion. Furthermore, land-based casinos increased its operations by 19 percent to £1.19 billion, the biggest jump in all sectors, mainly because of table games, which registered £987 million. Gaming machines also grew 3.5 percent.
