Online gambling in Italy gets renewed
The corresponding governing body has finally settled on online gambling in Italy and its licencing procedure and will sanction 67 concessions.
Italy.- The segment has waited for this moment for months, but finally the Italian gambling regulator, ADM, made a decision. The customs and monopolies agency settled on online gambling in Italy and its licencing procedure and will issue 67 concessions.
ADM assessed online gambling laws in Italy in order to set customer protections and requirements on registration. It has renewed licences for Italian operators, Snaitech, Lottomatica, Sisal, Eurobet, Goldbet, Stanleybet and Microgame.
William Hill, bet365, bwin, Pokerstars and Betfair also got new ADM approvals as foreign operators.
The decision also allows the arrival of Smarkets, Pinnacle and Energybet to the sports betting market.
Excluded operators include Pi Piper Ltd, Betclic Ltd, Goal & Gaming srl, Constitution of B&B online, Rabbit Entertainment, Play Live Ltd and Rating Consulting.
Online gambling in Italy
Figures shared by Italian gaming news agency AGIMEG showed that the local online casino market saw spending of €72.6 million during March 2019, which represents a 19.8% increase when compared to the previous year.
The numbers for the first quarter of the year were also positive, as they were 17.6% up from the same period in 2018 to €206 million. PokerStars once again led the market and took an 11.1% share of the market. Sisal and Lottomatica followed the company with 7.94% and 7.5% respectively and held the second and third largest share.
Furthermore, 888, Eurobet and Snaitech posted similar results. 888 recorded 6.67% of the market share, while Eurobet and Snaitech both took 6.45% of the share in March.
