NY Senate passes the poker bill
The online poker bill has received the green light during this week’s Senate session in New York State.
US.- The New York State Senate has finally passed the online poker bill S-3898, which now will be evaluated by the Assembly. However, both legislators and gaming operators remain expectant about the further assessments as a similar bill was approved last year by the Senate but immediately dismissed by the Assembly.
Sen. John Bonacic has celebrated once again the approval of its online poker Project, although he cannot confirm whether the bill would obtain a total support this time. The legislation would regulate an already active online poker market, which is not currently generating any benefit for the state because operations are illegal.
According to Online Poker Report, the Senator expressed yesterday: “This bill serves two main purposes in allowing New Yorkers access to regulated online poker while providing critical consumer protections and increasing revenues to the state for education and taxes via operator licenses.” And added: “I will continue to work with my colleagues in the Assembly to see that this bill passes both houses before the end of session.”
Online poker bill S-3898 was sent to the New York Senate floor after a Senate Finance Committee passed it on May. The bill classifies certain types of poker such as Texas Hold’em and Omaha Hold’em as games of skill rather than luck, making them legal within state borders. This year, on January 27, Bonacic re-introduced it as online poker remains a hot topic in New York’s agenda.
