North Carolina sports betting handle increases in May

The handle increased by 2.8 per cent year-over-year.

US.- The North Carolina State Lottery Commission has released its sports wagering revenue report for May. The state’s eight licensed interactive sports wagering operators posted a handle of $578m, up 2.8 per cent year-over-year.

Gross wagering revenue was $64.3m, down from $54.5m in the previous month. Winnings totalled $510.2m and estimated tax proceeds were $11.6m,

For the fiscal year to date, from July 2025 to May 2026, wagering revenue was $7bn. Gross wagering revenue totalled $739.2m and taxes $133m.

Mobile sports wagering launched in the state in March 2024. In May, North Carolina Governor Josh Stein signed an executive order that prohibits state employees from using information they gained at work to participate in prediction markets. The order is an extension of the state’s Ethics Act, which prohibits public workers from using information gained through their official responsibilities for their own personal financial interest.
