NGCB secures preliminary injunction against Polymarket

The regulator has announced that a Nevada judge has ruled in its favour.

US.- The Nevada Gaming Control Board (NGCB) has announced that Judge Woodbury of the First Judicial District Court for the State of Nevada has granted its motion for a preliminary injunction against the prediction platform Polymarket. Chairman Mike Dreitzer welcomed the ruling and said the regulator would “continue to vigorously enforce Nevada law to safeguard gaming in our state.”

The NGCB said it has taken action to restrict all unlicensed prediction market operations that were known to be operating in the state. Previous preliminary injunction orders prohibited Kalshi and Coinbase from offering or facilitating event contracts in Nevada related to sports, elections and entertainment.

Dreitzer has called on the gambling industry to take a firmer position on the expansion of sports event prediction markets. Speaking during the International Conference on Gambling and Risk Taking at the Bellagio in Las Vegas, he said the industry must defend the regulatory standards developed to protect consumers and ensure market integrity.

He said regulators are not opposed to innovation but argued that new products should be subject to the same oversight mechanisms and consumer safeguards required of licensed gambling operators.

In Rhode Island, Attorney General Peter F. Neronha recently announced a lawsuit against Kalshi and Polymarket. Neronha’s office argues that although the event contracts’ structure may technically differ from that of a traditional sportsbook, they allow people to bet on the outcome of sports matches and player performances and are therefore subject to Rhode Island’s gambling laws.
