New window to open for Arizona sports betting licences

The new application window for Arizona event wagering licences will open next month.

US.- The Arizona Department of Gaming (ADG) has announced that it will begin accepting new applications for event wagering licences, paving the way for another expansion of the state’s regulated sports betting market. The application period will run from June 26 until July 10, 2026, at 5pm Arizona time, with all submissions required to be completed within that window.

Under state law, specifically A.R.S. §5‑1304 and A.A.C. R19‑4‑105 and 106, the ADG must reserve at least one licence for an Arizona tribe and one for an Arizona sports franchise.

Arizona legalised event wagering in 2021. Since then, bettors have staked $33.9bn, generating nearly $179.9m in privilege fees for the state. The enabling legislation capped the market at 20 operator licences, evenly split between tribes and sports franchises.

Currently, 14 operators are licensed. The ADG has periodically reopened application windows, most recently in July 2024, to fill available slots.

Prospective applicants are encouraged to review the agency’s online materials to ensure compliance with the detailed application requirements. The ADG has reiterated that applications submitted after the July 10 deadline will not be considered.

Cliff Holden, ADG’s Assistant Director of Certification and Licensing, said the regulator remains “dedicated to consumer protection and a thorough licensing review process”.
