New sportsbook goes live in Mississippi

Last Thursday, Island View Casino became the latest venue to offer sports betting in the state of Mississippi.

US.- Sports betting continues to expand in the US after the Supreme Court struck the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA) down, and Mississippi is one of the states already taking advantage from the segment. That’s why Island View Casino has become the latest casino to open a sportsbook section, which has been located in the northern part of the venue.

“We’ve been working on this now dating back to 2014. I just think it’s gonna provide folks a place where they can go and enjoy the game and if they want to place a wager on it,” Vice President and General Counsel at Island View Casino Michael Bruffey said.

Representative Richard Bennet also praised the segment and the opening of Island View’s sportsbook and said it will help casinos around the north part of Mississippi improve finances. “The biggest help I think is gonna be Tunica. I think that market up in Memphis and Arkansas that had left the state for other venues because of flooding a few years back and with the other states not having sports betting,” he stated and added: “I think it’s gonna pull some of those patrons back to Tunica. So, I’m really happy about that. But I’m really happy about the excitement the Coast is gonna have.”
