US.- The Alabama-Coushatta Tribe of Texas and Naskila Casino have broken ground on the future Naskila Casino Resort. Tribal leadership, Naskila Casino representatives, community members, and project partners participated in the event.
The permanent development with a casino, hotel, restaurants and entertainment areas will be built opposite an interim casino, which will operate while the permanent venue is under construction. The temporary casino will be open 24 hours a day, featuring 300 electronic bingo machines. It will also offer a 24-hour deli, a fountain drink station, a players’ club and approximately 300 parking spaces.
The tribe owns and operates the existing Naskila Casino and Ischoopa Travel Center on its tribal reservation land in Texas. The venue opened n 2016 with Class II bingo machines, a smoking and non-smoking gaming area, restaurants, cafes and a players’ club. In 2025, the tribe received notification from the National Indian Gaming Commission (NIGC) and the Solicitor’s Office for the Bureau of Indian Affairs confirming that the land for the new development, which had been in trust since 2001, was eligible to be used for gaming.
Keith Sherer, general manager of Naskila Casino, said: “Today marks an important milestone in Naskila’s journey and the future of the Alabama-Coushatta Tribe. What began as a vision has grown into a significant economic driver for East Texas, and this next phase allows us to build on that momentum. Naskila Casino Resort will create new opportunities, attract visitors from across the region and deliver lasting benefits for the Tribe, our employees, and surrounding communities for generations to come.
