New Mexico Racing Commission to vote a proposal to relocate the SunRay Park & Casino
If approved, it would move from Farmington in San Juan County to Curry County.
US.- The New Mexico Racing Commission will vote a proposal to relocate the SunRay Park & Casino licence from Farmington in San Juan County to a location near Clovis in Curry County. If approved, the move would take place when the current lease expires on September 30, 2027.
The proposed location on US 84 is an area with no casinos within a 100-mile radius. The proposal is for a racetrack, casino and hotel. Currently, the resort is located near several casinos and hosts the minimum 17 racing days required annually, while the new project would feature a larger racing calendar.
San Juan County officials have expressed concerns about economic impact and passed a resolution opposing the relocation. SunRay is estimated to contribute more than $20m annually to the Farmington area and supports over 100 jobs.
Meanwhile, Route 66 Casino Hotel in New Mexico recently opened its Stadium 66 Sports Bar, a renovated dining, bar and sports betting space. The new area features a Caesars Sportsbook, with five betting kiosks and five live betting windows.
