New Jersey sports betting handle tops previous record
The state of New Jersey has broken its own record handle for the fourth consecutive month in November.
US.- New Jersey’s sports betting handle for November hit $931m, setting an all-time monthly record, according to figures released by the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE).
It’s the fourth consecutive month in which New Jersey has beaten its own sports betting handle since first setting a nationwide record in August.
November’s total brings the state’s handle for the entire year to over $5bn for the first time. It’s the second state to break that barrier, following Nevada in 2018 and 2019.
Sports betting revenues for the month came to $50.5m. While that number is $8m less than the revenues from October, it represents a 23 per cent increase from the $332.1m in revenue in November 2019.
The DGE also reported that online casino and poker operators generated combined revenue of $91.8m for November, an 87 per cent rise from November 2019 but a slight decrease from the $93.5m generated in October 2020.
In October, a state lawmaker proposed a bill that would allow gamblers to place wagers on college and university sporting events in New Jersey in the latest proposal for gambling expansion in the state.
Meanwhile, casino revenues in Atlantic City continue to drop with a 37.2 per cent decline in the third quarter.
