Nevada regulator files civil enforcement action against Polymarket
The regulator seeks to stop the operator from offering what it considers unauthorised gambling in the state.
US.- The Nevada Gaming Control Board (NGCB) has filed a civil enforcement action against Blockratize, owner of prediction markets provider Polymarket. The action seeks to stop the operator from continuing to offer what the regulator considers unauthorised gambling in the state.
According to the NGCB, civil enforcement action was filed in the Carson City District Court. The regulator said it has asked the court for a declaration and injunction “to stop the operator from offering unlicensed wagering in violation of Nevada law.”
In a statement, the Nevada regulator said that it considers offering sports event contracts, or certain other event contracts, to constitute wagering activity, and, therefore, companies providing such services must be licensed. It considers Polymarket’s operations to be unlawful in the state.
The NGCB stated: “Nevada’s public policy, as expressed by the Legislature, is that the gaming industry is vitally important to the economy of the state and the general welfare of the inhabitants and therefore must be licensed, controlled, and assisted to protect the public health, safety, morals, good order, and general welfare of the inhabitants of the State.”
