Nevada assembly approves bill on illegal gambling

The proposed legislation would alllow Nevada to pursue operators located outside the state.

US.- The Nevada Legislature has approved Senate Bill 256 (SB 256), which aims to strengthen the state’s power to fight illegal gambling. The legislation passed with a 42-0 vote and will now return to the Senate for approval as amended in the legislature.

Given that the only change the legislature proposed was to add assemblywoman Brittney Miller as a co-sponsor, the bill is expected to pass quickly to governor Joe Lombardo to become law.

The proposed legislation proposes that, in addition to any existing penalties, a person must give back any profit or benefit gained from illegal gaming activities. This amount must be paid to the State Treasurer and will go into the State General Fund. It also gives the state the power to pursue operators outside the state if they accept bets from people in Nevada. It would introduce punishments of one to ten years in prison and/or a fine of up to $50,000.
