NCAA suspends six student-athletes in sports betting cases

According to the investigations, players who competed in men’s basketball at New Orleans, Mississippi Valley and Arizona State, violated the rules.

US.- The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Committee on Infractions has suspended six student-athletes for breaches of sports betting riles. The athletes in question competed in men’s basketball at New Orleans, Mississippi Valley and Arizona State.

The suspensions were announced in three separate and unrelated infractions decisions. The association said the cases involved betting-related game manipulation and/or student-athletes providing information to known bettors. It said three cases involved a lack of cooperation by student-athletes, who knowingly provided false or misleading information to investigators.

The athletes involved are Cedquavious Hunter, Dyquavian Short, Jamond Vincent, Donovan Sanders, Alvin Stredic and Chatton “BJ” Freeman. The cases were resolved via negotiated resolution in coordination with the student-athletes’ former schools.

The NCAA recently postponed a rule change that will allow student-athletes and athletic department staff to bet on professional sports. The Division I Board of Directors voted to put back the effective date from November 1 to November 22.

Last month, NBA’s Miami Heat player Terry Rozier and Portland Trail Blazers head coach Chauncey Billups were arrested in separate, unrelated cases of alleged gambling offences.
