Mobile betting attempt dies in New York

The bill that would have legalised mobile betting in New York failed to pass the Assembly.

US.- It seems as New Yorkers will have to keep waiting to be able to bet on sports through mobile devices. The Assembly did not pass the mobile wagering bill from Joseph Addabbo and the bill died in this legislative session.

While the legislative session was supposed to end on Wednesday, June 19, it was extended to June 20 in order to be able to finish discussing a number of state appointments. However, bill S17 failed to pass the Assembly Standing Committee on Codes.

“I have not witnessed a clear reason why New York can’t implement mobile sports betting this year. Just for the remainder of this fiscal year, we would be losing out on approximately US$75 million in revenue, educational funding and both job creation and retention,” said Addabbo.

Moreover, he said that the state will be stuck “like a disabled car on the shoulder,” while an illegal sports betting business progress and New York watches other neighbouring states pass us up with enormous revenue gains from mobile sports betting.
