Mississippi continues the debate on DFS
The State’s House had passed the second attempt of the bill earlier on February.
US.- After several votes on the H 967 Daily Fantasy Sports bill, the Mississippi House has finally passed the project to Governor Phil Bryant’s office for complete approval. The new law would allow regulated operations of popular betting games on fictional sports events that are based on real-life sports industry.
Daily fantasy sports had previously operated in the State, but left the market once several officials stated that it was illegal. With the bill going towards approval, major national operators FanDuel and DraftKings are interested in coming back to Mississippi.
The activity would be offered for the land-based and online betting centrals and would be controlled by the Mississippi Gaming Commission. The bill also establishes a licensing fee of US$5,000 for three years of operations.
Furthermore, the State would be boosted with an 8 percent tax rate. The Mississippi legislation follows the current laws on States that had legalised the sector, which determine that employees are banned to play, consumers must be above 18 years old, among other issues.
