Mississippi casinos report further growth
Last month’s gaming operations ended with positive results for Mississippi Gulf Coast casinos.
US.- The Mississippi Department of Revenue revealed yesterday last month’s evaluation on casino finances. As the report shows, the state’s Gulf Coast casinos kept growing in July, posting strong revenue figures this week. June and July represented positive months for the local casinos, as the general revenue had been down in 2017.
“The Mississippi Department of Revenue reports gross casino revenue at the 12 properties across South Mississippi was US$108.4 million, up from US$105.1 million. That’s 3 percent higher than a year ago. It’s the best July since 2008 and follows a 6 percent increase in June. It’s also higher than the US$101.7 million revenue in July 2005, the month before Hurricane Katrina,” stated Gaming Today.
July’s revenue has boosted the year-to-date report on casino finances. In June, Mississippi’s Gulf Coast casinos have also shown good results. However, river casinos fell 5.5 from US$84 million to US$79 million, as reported by the news outlet. “Total state casino revenue was $188 million, down US$1 million or 0.7 percent from July 2016,” concluded the statement.
Mississippi’s government would approve soon a gaming expansion to boost the local economy by legislating the sports betting sector. This year, state’s legislators approved the sports betting law, which would allow legal gaming industry related to real life sports competitions although it contradicts current federal law.
