Michigan Gaming Control Board purchases additional Gamban licences for residents

The purchase follows an extraordinary demand for the gambling block software since its launch in April.

US.- The Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) has announced the purchase of an additional 100 free Gamban licences for Michigan residents. The regulator said the purchase follows extraordinary demand for the gambling block software since its launch in April.

More than 80 of the initial 100 licences were claimed in the first two weeks, the MGCB said. It suggested this was a signal that residents are seeking practical tools to help them manage or eliminate their access to online gambling.

Gamban is a gambling blocking software that restricts access to gambling websites and applications across all major devices and platforms. The software is designed to be highly resistant to removal. One licence covers unlimited household devices.

Under the MGCB’s deal with Gamban, licences ranging from one to five years are offered at no cost. There is no requirement to be enrolled in a self-exclusion programme, but those already enrolled in the Responsible Gaming Database or Disassociated Persons List were encouraged to take advantage of the additional layer of protection.

MGCB executive director Henry Williams said: “The response from Michigan residents in the first two weeks of this programme exceeded our expectations and speaks to a genuine need in our communities. We acted quickly to secure an additional 100 licences so that no resident seeking this kind of support is turned away. Michigan is committed to ensuring that the expansion of legal gaming comes with the strongest possible safeguards for the people we serve.”

“The strong response to this programme tells us that residents want accessible, device-level support — and we intend to keep delivering it. These additional licences mean more Michigan residents can take back control, free of charge.”
