MGM lawsuit is discharged
MGM Resorts International introduced a lawsuit against Connecticut’s casino expansion.
US.- The Middletown Press informed that last Wednesday, the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan ruled against MGM Resorts International lawsuit over Connecticut’s approval of gaming expansion. The lawsuit was dismissed by the Connecticut’s Justice before MGM appealed for the Manhattan Court.
MGM Resorts International is opening a major casino in Springfield, Massachusetts, which would jeopardise gaming revenues in the neighbour state of Connecticut. Therefore, the government of the state signed a new law allowing gaming expansion to compete with the latest tourism attraction by MGM.
The casino operator filed a lawsuit arguing that the Connecticut’s legislation would set a competitive disadvantage for its business. However, two courts have already rejected MGM’s allegations. According to the Middletown Press, the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals expressed that the MGM’s claims are “purely speculative,” as the company cannot present proofs of the competitive disadvantage yet.
The Connecticut lawmakers have given their final approval for a third casino in the state earlier this month. However, MGM plans to fulfill a complaint with federal court as the company says it’s an unconstitutional no bid contract. The state has favoured the tribal plan to compete with the MGM facility thats soon to be open in Springfield with a casino of their own in East Windsor and has generated the unrest among MGM governance.
