Massachusetts Gaming Commission launches new responsible gaming programme
The regulator has announced the launch of PlayWell, replacing the GameSense initiative.
US.- The Massachusetts Gaming Commission (MGC) has announced the launch of PlayWell, a new responsible gaming and player health programme to replace its GameSense initiative. The regulator said new branding will appear at casinos and on sports betting platforms.
The new initiative is administered by the Massachusetts Council on Gaming and Health. It includes resources such as 101 guides detailing the rules of games, advisors and the existing voluntary self-exclusion programme.
MGC chair Jordan Maynard commented: ‘When gaming was legalised in the Commonwealth, it was essential to build a world-class research, responsible gaming and player health programme to ensure the industry’s viability. For over a decade, the Commission has worked with stakeholders, elected leaders, operators, and patrons to build a library of knowledge around gambling harms and player health, and launching this new programme, which is developed, owned and operated by the MGC will allow the Commission to have a greater impact on Massachusetts residents in need of support.’
Mark Vander Linden, MGC director of research and responsible gaming, added: ‘PlayWell is designed with the needs of Massachusetts gamblers in mind. Backed by research and evaluation, PlayWell advisors deliver timely and relevant tips, information and resources to patrons in the casino or online.’
The MGC reported that Plainridge Park Casino (PPC), MGM Springfield (MGM), and Encore Boston Harbor (EBH) generated $92m in gross gaming revenue (GGR) in February. That’s a drop from $96.6m in January 2026 and 1.5 per cent year-on-year.
