Massachusetts continues probe on Wynn
The Massachusetts Gaming Commission will continue to investigate Wynn Resorts despite Steve Wynn stepped down as CEO.
US.- Sexual misconduct allegations against Steve Wynn have shaken the casino industry and Massachusetts decided to take further actions against Wynn Resorts after the scandal. Despite the mogul has already stepped down as company’s CEO, the Massachusetts Gaming Commission (MGC) has advanced it will continue to move ahead with its investigation of the company.
Wynn’s decision was an attempt to avoid business from getting hit to hard on the negative image the allegations may have, but the Everett casino license still seems to be hanging in the balance as the MGC continues to study the US$2.4 billion resort casino set to open in 2019.
“We’ll have to determine the facts of ongoing suitability for Wynn, individual qualifiers,” said Ed Bedrosian, executive director of the MGC. “There’s still concerns about whether Steve Wynn has control, stock ownership, and those types of things. We’ll have to find out exactly what the resignation actually means,” he added.
Furthermore, Gov. Charlie Baker’s office says he believes it’s the right decision for Wynn Resorts to terminate its relationship with Mr. Wynn in light of recent disturbing allegations, and supports the gaming commission’s ongoing review.
“In the last couple of weeks, I have found myself the focus of an avalanche of negative publicity — I have reached the conclusion I cannot continue to be effective in my current roles,” Wynn said as he resigned as CEO.
