Massachusetts is also planning sports betting law

The States of Massachusetts has joined the long list of states interested in legalising the sports betting industry.

US.- Massachusetts authorities have joined the federal debate related to a potential legal sports betting industry. Over 18 states have shown their interest in legalising sports betting operations if the federal government is forced to change current PASPA legislation under a resolution released by the US Supreme Court.

After the NBA presented several demands to legalise the sports betting industry with a few requests to benefit the sports sector, Massachusetts residents have also admitted to have set several unlicensed operations to bet during the Super Bowl, one of the major sports events in the American market.

New Jersey’s case, introduced a few years ago, is primarily centred around the fact that there is a US$150 billion illegal sports betting market in the United States each year. PASPA, a sports protection act that was passed in 1992, prevents states from offering gambling lines on sports. Only Nevada, Oregon, Delaware, and Montana were granted special exemptions as all four of those states were offering some variation of sports lotteries back in 1992.

As the legal case is now being evaluated by the US Supreme Court, states’ legislators are waiting for the resolution within the next months in order to plan the future of the industry.
